02 — The craft

The birth of a qanun

Four stages, one goal: an instrument you can trust on stage, that holds its tuning and answers your technique instantly.

  1. The wooden body of a qanun, seen from the back
    01

    The wood

The soundboard is everything. Selected sycamore for a warm, classic voice; hornbeam for stable tuning and a balanced tone. Every model's character begins with the right wood.

  2. Abalone mother-of-pearl inlay in a Tree of Life motif
    02

    Inlay & carving

Pieces of mother-of-pearl are set one by one, by hand, and motifs are carved into the wood. From the Tree of Life to palace patterns, every detail carries the maker's signature.

  3. A row of qanun mandals, close up
    03

    The mandals

Precise, controlled tuning with sliding-rail mandals — or the classic feel of traditionally fitted ones. On our signature series, the choice is yours.

  4. A finished qanun in the workshop
    04

    The voicing

Every qanun is voiced and tuned in the workshop and delivered ready to play. Conservatory-trained players on our team listen to each instrument with a musician's ear.

Good questions

How much does a handmade qanun cost?

Our handmade qanuns range from ₺116,000 to ₺190,000 (workshop prices in Turkish lira). The price depends on the soundboard (hornbeam or sycamore), the mandal system and the mother-of-pearl or carving work. Each model's current price is listed in the collection.

Which qanun model is right for me?

For your first professional qanun, the hornbeam-top Orion family offers stable tuning and the best value. For a warm, classic voice, look at our sycamore signature series (TOL, Retro, Ahenk, Saray, CA Carving). Ocean and White Elite Stone are the pinnacle of our workshop. Tell us how you play and we'll help you choose.

In-stock instruments leave the workshop the next business day after payment is confirmed. Models that aren't in stock are made to order in about 55 days. Transit time depends on your country; we confirm it on WhatsApp.
